In light of the Braves’ growing need for left-handed relief help, the club has claimed southpaw Dario Alvarez off waivers from the Mets, Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports on Twitter. New had recently designated Alvarez for assignment.
Alvarez has limited major league action over the last two years and has struggled this year at Triple-A.
He’s got a 9.98 ERA in 17 appearances at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, with eight strikeouts and six walks in 9 1/3 innings.
Over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he had 10 major league appearances for the Mets and posted a combined ERA of 12.60 with three strikeouts in five innings.
